To sleep, perchance in bed?

Sometimes, Craig is crazy. I'm pretty sure all kids are, right? One of the ways Craig is crazy is his sleep. Aside from the fact he sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 10 PM (or later...), when he does sleep, it's usually a little... odd.

Of course, there are the times he skips his nap, and then falls asleep wherever he is.
Like after playing in the pool,
while eating snack.
Or while watching a movie
and folding laundry.
Or at Calista's preschool graduation
(which was scheduled during regular naptime).
Or sometimes when I get him up from his nap...
...but he's just not quite ready to awake.

But even if we discount those, there are still a ton of ways Craig is weird when he sleeps.
Sometimes it's just sleeping in Calista's bed.

But other times...
He recently decided (for days at a time) that the floor is superior to his bed.
Every night, he moved his pillow and blanket to the floor, next to his dresser.
Every morning, I put them back on his bed... and he'd move them again come bedtime.
While Calista was in Idaho with my parents, he decided to sleep in the playroom, on the floor...
...under the table. We didn't understand, but decided not to fight it.

And even when he manages to sleep in his own bed...
Craig still does it in a strange fashion.
......
....
..
I don't get it, either.

At least he's sleeping (eventually).

I love your face, too, little man.

The other night, I was feeling tired. I'm 35 weeks pregnant, I have a 4.5 and 2.5 year old, and life is busy. So, I decided to go to bed a little bit early. Around 9:30, I headed upstairs. Calista was passed out in her bed, but my little man... Craig was happily playing with blocks in the playroom. When he saw me brushing my teeth, he asked if I was going to bed. I told him yes, I was.
"I want to cuddle with you! In your bed!" he exclaimed as he went to grab a blanket. So, crawling into bed after me was Craig. He curled up next to me and grinned.
He pointed to my glasses and said, "I like your glasses." When I took them off, he said, "I like your eyes, too. I like your mouth. Do you like my eyes? Do you like my mouth?" I enthusiastically told him that YES, I love his eyes and mouth. For about 20 minutes, Craig giggled and grinned at me, pointing to different features and telling me that he liked me: "I like your nose. I like your teeth. I like your chin. I like your hair. I like your face..." And I said to myself, I need to remember this moment. I need to remember my sweet little boy, cuddled with me, telling me in his own way, how much he loved me. And I need to tell him I love him! So I let him stay for a while, exhausted as I was. I took semi-unflattering selfies, to help me remember. And we hid under my blanket and giggled. Because he loves me.

Happy Mother's Day. I am so grateful for my two little munchkins who have made me a mother, and for the one still to come. May I remember, especially when things get tough, how much I love them, and how much they love me. I am so thankful for my own mother, and the wonderful example she has set for me, on good days and bad. And thank you Craig, for reminding me what is most important: you.

We saved the day, we always save the day!

So, Calista and Craig are learning to play together really well. Most of the time. Lately, they have been playing SuperHeroes.
They put their their hooded towels on their heads and then they become superheroes, so they say.
They've been doing this several days in a row.
No matter what else they are doing or playing, they have their towels on their heads. Whether it's playing with blocks,
Or making a mess helping me make dinner,
I have superheroes doing it.
Apparently, they even have super powers. I heard them coming down the stairs, and then... THUMP... Then I heard a little Craig voice say, "I'm okay. I'm just a superhero."
And who can argue with that logic?
They even have a theme song. It varies what exactly is said, but it can include:
"We are super heroes, we are super heroes. We will save the day! I am a cat, he is a shark, we will save the day! ... We saved the day, we saved the day, we always save the day!"
See, this is a version of it.
I love my silly awesome children and their silly awesome superhero-ness.

Miss Fearless (and Grumpy-kins) go to the Amusement Park

For this summer, Kyler and I have splurged a little and bought season passes to Calaway Park. We got them before the park opened for the season, so we were able to get them for $40 each... instead of $110 each or $108 for a single day. Yeah, $40 doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way...
I've been wanting to visit "Western Canada's Largest Outdoor Amusement Park" for a while now, but I was always pregnant or had a little baby or something. So, this was it. Our opportunity. And we seized it.
We have been twice now (which means we're already ahead in $!), and it was been a lot of fun.
This little girl... she's fearless.
From the very first ride (with daddy!)...
Or the first one by herself...
She's been nothing but smiles.
During and after every ride, all she says is, "This is so fun! This is the best ride ever!"
Especially if she has some control!
Even the "scary" big-kid type rides that she's allowed on, ones that make other kids cry, what does she do?
Thumbs up, no fear...
I think she only started screaming because everyone else did. She thought it was funny.

Her brother, on the other hand...
He seems to think sitting on a ride is torture.
He sometimes gets better when it actually starts moving, but not much.
His favorite "rides" are the height measure boards at every ride:
What a fun place it is! All smiles here!
And rocks. So, while one of us rides fun rides with Calista, the other watches Craig climb and throw rocks, and everyone is happy.

I'm kind of amazed by how many rides Calista is allowed to do, and even more impressed by how willing she is to try all of them. Maybe by the end of the season, Craig will be willing to do a ride or two, as well...

The Dynamic Duo

I love my children, and most of the time, they love each other and it's adorable. Just the other day, I was about to put Craig down for a nap when Calista said, "Um, can I play with Craig for a little bit?"
But it's naptime, I said.
"But I want to play with him, just for a little bit?"
How could I say no?
As I put him back down, Calista grabbed out some toys and said, "Here, Craig, come play with me!"

I love them.

With that as an introduction, I present to you random Craig and Calista pictures from the last four months.

Zoo pictures:

Calista's tongue is funny.

They, especially Craig, love these rocks.

Ooooo, spooky. Into the mist...

Seriously, they love these rocks.

Outside play pictures:
Craig consenting to holding Calista's hand. It doesn't happen often. He wants to be free!

Craig has a tendency of trying to walk up to doors that aren't ours. Calista was trying to stop him.

Throwing rocks!

Wearing their swim floaties to play on the deck, obviously.

Swimming, kind of!

Lunch outside: waffles. Can it get any better?

Inside play pictures:

Just finished doing Calista's hair.

Dancing!

Silly window playing. I'm surprised the curtains haven't fallen down...

Calista was feeling a bit sick, and Craig is giving her a hug. Awwww.

Dad's legs make a great jungle gym

Sword fight!

Sleeping pictures:
Since we took the side of Craig's crib, sometimes they end up in the same bed. Them sleeping together? Adorable. The not-sleeping that occurs before this moment? Not quite as fun (for me), but they usually enjoy it. Unless Calista starts crying because Craig hit her in the face with a book and wakes up the next morning with a nice red mark on her cheek.

I think I'll keep them. Wouldn't you?
