We traveled to Oregon for the holidays, which meant several things:
1. Calista took her first plane ride.
2. Calista met her cousins, and my entire family was together for Christmas for the first time in... four years?
3. Calista had her first Christmas.
4. We got to enjoy Oregon by doing things such as going downtown, to the temple, and to the Tillamook Cheese Factory.
This post will talk about numbers 1 and 4 above. Numbers 2 and 3 will each have there own posts. Capisce?
Calista was great for the plane rides, or at least as good as we could possibly expect. She was too intrigued and/or overwhelmed by all the people at the airport to nap, but on the plane she'd calm down a little and would actually sleep, which was nice.
Sleeping plane baby. She didn't just nap, though. Calista, as always, played the charmer. She had everyone in the rows around us smiling and laughing at her, and she loved it.
Bouncy plane baby!
Thanks for being relatively easy to deal with, baby!
As a whole family, we headed to the coast one day. We didn't actually touch the ocean, because it was cold, wet, and windy, but we did go to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and then to eat at Mo's. Tasty, tasty ice cream, cheese, and clam chowder. Can life get better?
At the cheese factory, with the cow/farmer cutouts. What a cute little cow we have, eh?
We went downtown twice, once to visit my dad with the entire family, and once with Calista's namesake.
I love downtown Portland. We went the the Saturday's market, which is always exciting, and we went to Powell's, City of Books. I love bookstores that you legitimately need a map to find your way around. I always have to set a budget before I walk in, and for the first time ever, I didn't even try to go over it! Of course, Kyler said the budget was $50, but not going over it probably had more to do with the diaper blowout we experienced while we were there rather than an inability for us to find more than 50 bucks worth of books.
We also went here:
We stood in line for quite a while, and the doughnuts were good and had funny names, but... not worth the wait. If you want good doughnuts without the hype and wait, go to Donut Day, only a few blocks from where my grandma and grandpa used to live. The owner is super nice, too. And, yes, Kyler and I went to the temple. That means we officially left Calista with someone who is not her parent for the first time ever, and everyone survived. Calista was a bit of a pill, not wanting to nap, but she had troubles with that, and adjusting to the house, the pack-n-play, everything. That meant sometimes she was so tired she would finally fall asleep like this:
Sitting upright(ish) on the couch with Kyler. She just nodded off.
Until next time...
